Monday night the prestigious Lennox Head Business Awards were held with many local businesses taking part. beef+beach/Seven Mile Weddings had an amazing result with 3 Awards including the top Award – Excellence in Business with 20+ employees. Owner Troy Lister was extremely excited with the result & stated “what a fantastic effort from our management & staff, I couldn’t be prouder & thankful for an amazing year from our team”.

The other awards that were won,
– “Professional Service” which focused on all three sectors in the business – restaurant, functions/events & weddings with criteria including procedures for booking, organizing, promoting & running such events, functions & weddings. The business has invested a lot in the refinement of our professional service over the last few years.
- “Visitor Experience” we love this award as we have won it back in 2016. The culture of the business has a strong emphasis on making sure we deliver an entertaining, fun & delicious dining experience to our customers.
The 3 awards guarantee direct entry into the regional awards held later this year.

The business opened its new venue “Seven Mile” 10 months ago with the launch of the new wedding brand “Seven Mile Weddings” at the same time. The new venue has helped grow the business turn over more than 20 per cent during this time with a much larger percentage expected over the next 12 to 14 months. During his speech for the Excellence in Business Troy said “we love Lennox, our community & the local businesses. Seven Mile Venue & the Seven Mile Weddings Brand was created as we could see the positives for all the businesses in the village as each wedding can have over 100 guests attending that require accommodation, food & shopping, as well as all the local wedding service providers that are loving working in their own town”.

Taking 5 with Natalie Grono Wedding Photographer

We recently chatted to Natalie Grono, a photographer based in the Northern Rivers. Here is what she had to say:

WHAT GOOD ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO A NEW BRIDE ABOUT HER SPECIAL DAY?
Remember to relax and enjoy. When it’s all over you want to make sure you’ve enjoyed yourself.

WHAT IS THE MOST POPULAR SERVICE OR PRODUCT YOU OFFER?

My most popular package is called The Love Story, which is complete coverage of the day. Couples are grateful when they receive their images and see a visual timeline of the whole event from start to finish – capturing everyone who came together to make the day so special.

My other popular product would have to be the fine art albums, an everlasting keepsake. In today’s digital world, I can’t stress how important it is to have the images made into an album.

WHAT IS THE BEST INCLUSION IN A CEREMONY OR RECEPTION YOU HAVE EVER SEEN?

I have a couple that spring to mind.

I think one of the most entertaining receptions I’ve covered was of Sarah and Craig. Sarah is from Sweden and she married Craig an Australian. Her friends in Sweden made a video where they took to the streets of Stockholm asking strangers for marriage advice and asked them various questions about the couple by showing them a photo of them. The end result was played on a screen at the reception and was hilarious invoking much laughter.

Sarah and Bud also made a booklet, which contained an informative, and comical bio page of each guest at the reception, they then sat people next to people they thought they would get along with.  As each guest had to make new friends quickly the reception ended up being very social and lots of fun.

The other favourite reception was for a wedding I covered in NYC. The couple took to the streets of Brooklyn with their guests and a Mariachi band!

As the couple (Kerry and Justin) and guests danced with the band various people who were on the street joined in making it a big colourful Mexican themed street party.

WHAT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING A COUPLE ASKS YOU WHEN DISCUSSING THEIR SPECIAL DAY?

How the day will flow and what time of day will be optimal for the photos they desire. I also find it important to discuss what it is they wish for in the photography.

Below are a few Q & A’s for Kaye Adam, our Preferred Partner Wedding specialist.

  1. What good advice would you give to a new bride about her special day?

There are so many ways I advise my clients i love to cover all aspects and find out as much as possible to cover there day.

Firstly,  I offer a full consultation which is normally over the phone, we cover the whole style of there wedding for me to be able to create the look to go with there wedding, this gives me all the information to create and advise on their overall look that I will create for their wedding day i.e. hair styles, florals, what will work on there hair, advice on options of hair buns, hair extensions and accessories, taking in consideration weather and humidity, especially if it is a client eloping to here as they may not be familiar with our weather, so I can advise the best style to last all day.

I always ask who they have booked for other services, so they let all the other vendors know who we are working with. I also cover all the timings with the other vendors to take the stress off running late, so we allocate enough time i.e. photos and time to get in outfits.

Very major advice is the last 30 mins go way to quick so we always allow more time to get ready to avoid the stress and hectic last minute rush. I advise them to send me photos and inspiration of dresses, colours, florals etc to really get a visual look of there type of wedding. I always offer advice in all areas of there wedding if they need support or help and offer to recommend other suppliers if they are still looking for them.

  1. What is the most popular service or product you offer?

I use cruelty free, earth friendly products they give a real natural result but a good coverage I do a lot of clients that don’t wear any or much make up so my products are light and I get a lot of comments on the feel of my products I use on there skin and they love them. i do a lot of bohemian style weddings soft make up and boho hair but I love doing any style I love the day its such a beautiful happy day always love being a part of there special day.

  1. What is the best inclusion in a ceremony or reception you have ever seen?

I don’t really get to go to the ceremonies with doing hair and make up but for a day bride to take the stress off one of the best inclusions is to be able to set up the day before or get family and friends to help set up rather than have the bride do it on the day. But if it is a venue and they offer the set up this really helps with timing and less stress. Also a venue that offers an indoor ceremony back up is a great add on cover/back up.

  1. What is the most important thing a bride/s & groom/s asks you when discussing her/his/their special day?

Will my make up and hair last all day? This is where my full consultation comes in as stated above to cover this. As my clients don’t wear a lot of make up I get asked if it will be really heavy – so I explain my products and their results and how natural they are but full coverage.

Choosing you hair style with Red Rens Hairdressing

After working in the hair and makeup Industry for 16 years Karen from Red Ren’s Hairdressing has seen many style trends come and go and she has managed to master most of them!

So… with wedding season here in full swing I thought I’d share some of my best tips/suggestions on all things bridal hairstyling to help you with the big decisions that you may face leading up to your special day. Obviously the biggest decision is always going to be hair up or hair down?!

Being based on the coast here at Lennox Head we see a lot of beachside weddings. So brides often choose free-flowing beachy waves which photographs beautifully in the breeze! However, if it’s too windy a day, your hair can end up a bit of mess – so I think this is why probably the most popular style seems to be a half-up half-down style.

Often incorporating soft braids and twists for that boho luxe look, allowing your hair to move freely whilst still looking specially styled and more importantly keeping it out of your face for your all important vows and of course that first kiss! If that’s not your thing then a perfectly placed flower crown can also help tame your mane and add beautiful decoration to your hairstyle.

However, there is nothing quite like timeless classic up styles, in my opinion for the ultimate elegance in bridal style. The main thing is that you must be completely comfortable in your chosen look and still feel like yourself! You don’t want to look back on your photos with regret for following a trend that just isn’t you. As your stylist, I will work with you and help guide you if you wish so that you will look and feel your absolute beautiful best for your big day!

The food was to die for- all of our guests could not stop raving about it- compliments to your chef! I get so excited when I get inquiries for wedding cakes, there’s something so special about creating something for somebody else’s memorable day that they are going to cherish forever. There are so many options when it comes to choosing a wedding cake and that’s the beauty of it, from the colours to the flavours to the flowers the options are almost endless for a bride and groom.  

The cake is always such a amazing piece of decoration or centrepiece for a wedding, it’s so special to see everything come together on a day when I set up my cakes.

  • What good advice would you give to a new bride about her special day?

When it comes to the cake choose a flavour you and your husband love (its your special day  ), in terms of style its always good to have a few pictures for inspo so you have a vision of how you want it to look

  • What is the most popular service or product you offer?

Everyone loves a two or three tier cake for a wedding, visually I think it has a more of a ‘wow’ impact and it obviously feeds a lot more people 

  • What is the best inclusion in a ceremony or reception you have ever seen?

I recently travelled to Victoria to do my cousins wedding cake, I ended up cutting the cake with them which was interesting!

  • Tell us about you as a wedding Specialist?

I am a local Lennox Head mother of three young girls, juggling a busy family life.

I’m passionate about bridal hairstyling and love my Industry. Throughout my career I’ve been fortunate to work in both London and Sydney. During this time I’ve worked along side some amazing hairdressers who are not only well regarded in the area of bridal hairstyling but who ignited in me a passion for beautiful hair.

What good advice would you give to a new bride about her special day?
The best advice I can give to those nearly weds is to stay well hydrated the morning of the wedding, plan well and then relax and enjoy every moment of your wedding day.

Just recently at a wedding in the Hinterland as the couple signed their Marriage certificate ~ a local vocalist sung “Fields of Gold” by sting. Her voice was so beautiful it created a beautiful atmosphere. My tip: Music Matters.

What is the most important thing a bride/s & groom/s asks you when discussing her/his/their special day?
I get asked all about the hair. Should it be up or down, how much time should we allow? Is a trial needed?
A trial is an awesome way to get all these questions answered. It allows you to see and feel how your hair responds and allows us to plan the time needed for you and your wedding party.
